Following his residency training, Dr. Parnes accepted a position at Albany Medical Center and Albany Medical College as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery and has remained with Albany Medical Center through the present time. He is now a Professor and has been Chairman of the department for the last 20 years. In fact, he was one of the youngest Otolaryngology Chairmen ever in the country.
In addition to his responsibilities at the medical center, he has been involved in many different regional and national societies, often involved as a member of the Board of Directors or as an Officer of the organization. He has published over 100 articles in peer review journals and receives frequent invitations for presentations nationally and internationally in the field of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
His interests include otology, neurotology, dizziness, cochlear implants, sinus and nasal disease, head & neck cancer and voice disorders. He was the first physician to perform cochlear implant in the Albany area over 20 years ago and has continued to perform this operation many times successfully. He is involved in the Acoustic Neuroma and Meniere's support groups and has been invited to speak to these groups on many occasions.
Dr. Parnes is involved in humanitarian activities, traveling to Honduras to work with the underpriviledged for the past four years. He has established a cochlear implant program in Syria.
His outside interests include skiing, mountain climbing, racquetball and basketball. He resides with his wife, Linda, on a horse farm where they breed and board thoroughbreds.
